About Dr Patrick

Dr Patrick McQuillan is a highly trained bariatric, upper gastrointestinal, and general surgeon committed to the highest quality care for his patients. Dr McQuillan performs weight loss surgery (including gastric sleeve, gastric bypass and mini-bypass), anti-reflux and hiatus hernia surgery, stomach and oesophageal cancer surgery (adopting minimally invasive techniques when indicated), surgery for achalasia, upper-endoscopy (including EMR for Barrett’s), gallbladder surgery as well as groin and abdominal hernia surgery.


He completed his General Surgical training in the Hunter Region before undertaking subspecialty training at large upper GI referral centres specialising in cancer, bariatrics and benign upper GI conditions. He has completed fellowships at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in England, one of Europe's largest upper GI cancer centres, Christchurch Hospital in New Zealand, and the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia.


Dr McQuillan is committed to maintaining the highest quality of care for his patients and treating everyone with kindness and respect whilst serving the community of the Hunter region. He is also a consultant surgeon at the John Hunter Hospital and Belmont Hospital, in addition to private hospital appointments.
